There was a lot of expectation for the first tournament and they were all fulfilled. The Buenaventura Marina hosted an event in which 30 boats, 136 fishermen, and more than half a thousand people participated actively in the closing event.
“A resounding success and much of that success was due to the support of sponsors and a work team committed to the event,” said María Alejandra Reyes, part of the tournament’s organizing committee.
“This year we have a great challenge: to exceed all expectations and we are working hard in all aspects. Our main objective is to encourage nautical tourism and sport fishing, social inclusion, and the personal development of children through sports”, stated the organizer.
With that in mind, the date of the second Trusted Advisors Cup fishing tournament is already set: August 18 and 19, 2022, with a prize pool of more than $50,000 dollars for the categories and a grand prize of $10,000 dollars in cash for the winner of the Grand Slam category.
The categories to be awarded for this 2nd Tournament are:
PICO FISH (Marlin or Sailfish):
This is a category of catch and release, where the fisherman who starts the fight must finish it and must deliver a recording of the catch, 360º of the boat, and the moment in which he releases the fish. The winner will be announced on Saturday, August 19, according to the accumulated points of both days (Friday, August 18, and Saturday, August 19, 2023).
TUNA:
It is the category that rewards the largest Tuna by weight.
DORADO:
It is the category that rewards the largest Dorado by weight.
FUN FISH (Children up to 13 years old):
It is the category that rewards by weight any species such as bonito, horse mackerel, needlefish, snapper, grouper, bojala, etc. With the exception of the species within the award-winning categories such as Tuna and Dorado. Additionally, sharks or stingrays will not be accepted. For this category, all children will be rewarded for their participation.
GRAND SLAM:
To participate in this Award, you must register in advance before weighing in any category. Participants must comply with a minimum of five (5) species of the six (6) listed, with their minimum weights described in the table below:

“This year we hope there will be a winner of the Grand Slam category, which is highly accepted among the competitors because of the amount of money they will receive. As last year, the Trusted Advisors Cup Fishing Tournament will donate a percentage of the funds raised to the Special Olympics for the “Adopt an Athlete” program, thus supporting the participation of Panamanian athletes in the Special Olympics in Berlin that will be held in the month of June 2023”, confirmed Reyes.
A social event for the whole community.
“This year, we aim to exceed the expectations of our attendees, offering greater participation of sponsors, food and beverage stalls, activities for children, live music with national artists, and much more… This is how we will offer a quality event and a unique and unforgettable experience for all the participants, family members, and guests”, commented María Alejandra.
The community will be able to enjoy live music on Friday, August 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, August 19, the event will be open to the public from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm. The final award ceremony of the competition that same day starts at 7:00 p.m.
This is an event to enjoy with family and friends, in addition to encouraging fishing for the little ones and at the same time having a fun time among the Buenaventura community.
Spaces for registrations are limited with a total of 40 spaces available. Each boat can carry between 4 to 5 fishermen.
